Broward
Humane Society
(or your local chapter)
I have a soft spot for the Broward Humane
Society as both my puppies came from here.
The Humane Society of Broward County provides
shelter, aid and responsible adoptions to
animals entrusted to our care, and educates the
community about respect and kindness to all
animals. The shelter is 33,000 square-feet with
the ability to house over 300 dogs and cats. The
society has full time veterinarian services for
shelter animals with an on site clinic. In
fiscal year 2004, the society placed 8,168
animals into new homes; and our educational
programs touched over 150,000 children and
adults.

ALSAC. Research efforts are directed at

Dogs for the Deaf
Founded in 1977, Dogs for the Deaf works to
rescue and professionally train dogs to assist
people and enhance their lives. Hearing Dogs are
chosen from adoption shelters, where they might
otherwise be euthanized if no homes are found
for them. By using shelter dogs we are able to
help alleviate some of the unwanted dog
population by rescuing these dogs, training
them, and placing them in loving homes where
they can provide an important service. The
program's investment per Hearing Dog is
approximately $25,000. This includes the
selection of the dog, veterinary care, training,
placement, and follow up.
